My new mommy friends always ask if I suffered from postpartum depression. I could easily say no and keep it moving— however, I encourage them to develop relationships with first time moms, who are expected to deliver around their due date. I believe having a companion who truly “got it”, throughout my birthing journey, made my postpartum experience smoother. I thank God for allowing me to cross paths with Refined Therapy by way of Chryston. She is a remarkably cultivated, educated and a mother who not only shows up as a coach but always shares evidence-based advice— which is necessary in a world full of socialite moms and self-proclaimed coaches.

“I had to be induced both times and I wasn’t expecting that, but I was prepared for what changes to expect. I’ve heard from other moms how crushed they were when things didn’t go as expected and it made things so much worse. I felt more prepared knowing that it could go in different directions. I was really grateful for you because you helped remind me things may not go as planned”

“I like to learn and revisit and revisit again so being able to access the information and really soak up all the information was perfect for me. The entire course was good and how it is organized was great. Having the calls were important to be able to ask questions and verify other information I heard. Preparing for both vaginal and cesarean, thinking about things I was avoiding thinking about like tears is important. I really appreciated you taking away the cesarean guilt!”

“My goal was a vaginal birth but the likelihood of me having a cesarean birth was high. I was concerned about that process and wanted education so when I had decision points to make, I can be comfortable about the decision I am making. Taking this course empowered me to express my fears and detail what I wanted my birth experience to look like either way, with my husband and my birth team. My OB, husband and I were able to have a conversation. I felt so comfortable and at ease when we made the decision to have a cesarean because I felt I knew what to expect and still had some control of the process. Your course removed the stigma of a cesarean birth. Our conversations and virtual calls helped me feel prepared to have conversations with my doctor to express what I wanted and gave me the medical terms to use. I did not even realize I had so many options but once I did, I felt confident asking for what I wanted and even my husband was able to ask the right questions. I felt prepared for some of the scary moments that took place, and I was able to calm myself knowing the process and what was happening.”

“Oh so many things I wish I had known going into my first birth. I would have loved to learn in detail birthing positions with someone to give me feedback not just videos to watch. Tearing was my biggest fear and a smooth transition to postpartum with someone to coach me through what to expect postpartum in my new body. Being a PT, I know pelvic floor PT and being back in PT and I’ve felt like a new person since. The mental emotional and physical support is so needed as a new mom. Why I waited so long to see a pelvic floor PT, I don't know”Â
